numbers & Computing |
| Like all cultures, numbers both cardinal and ordinal numbers are used to characterize, evaluate and compute goods, services, days, months, and other things. Traditionally though, while the smaller numbers are known, the higher figures such as billion, and mega are borrowed from modern counting. Terms for mathematical operations are also given as they are taught in many Fulani-African languages promotion classes. In counting money people generally use Mbuuzu (pl. buuzi) as a unit, which corresponds to 5 CFA francs, the early coin introduced by the French. In this case the amount of money is counted in multiples of five. However this may be true only in the former French colonies. |
 | Relatively recently, many languages are attempting to adapt to the fast moving worlds of the computer and the internet. A few members of the Sagata Group met to devise and literally invent terms that will address some of the needs of the computer and the web. There members were: Hame Watt, Mohamed Mbodj, Abdoulaye Agne, Kadia Kane and Ahmadou Moctar Kane. The Jamtan team is grateful for their contribution. This section of the Jamtan website provides the Fulfulde terms related to Numbers, Mathematical Operations , the Computer and the Internet.
